While attending the Dayton Regional STEM School I learned to better communicate my feelings and concerns. This will help me in my future as I plan to be a medical interpreter for Japanese. Communication skills are important for this career.
Through the Dayton Regional STEM School I was able to travel to China. During this trip I learned a lot about communicating with others and voicing my concerns. This trip was a great opportunity for learning to converse with people who live differently than you. Not everyone is the same and you need to be prepared to speak with people of all different backgrounds.
Through the Dayton Regional STEM School I was also able to travel to Taiwan. During this trip I did much of the same thing as in China, but this time I spoke with people around my age. This is good for learning to speak with people of youth which will be important as a medical interpreter.
At STEM School a project we did in 10th grade was called the monologue project. This was a project where we wrote monologues about certain events in history. This project was a great example of learning to communicate because we had to preform in front of our whole school.
This is an experience from back in 7th grade, but still a memorable one. In this experience I realized the power of advocating for myself. This is a key part of communicating through conflicts and other situations.
This is another experience from a little while ago, this time 8th grade. In 8th grade we did the Genius Hour project, a project where we were to talk about something we are passionate about. I chose to do mine on languages. This project was good for my communication skills because I had to speak for many important people.
